SPEKE, MUNYONYO TO HOST MISS TOURISM PAGEANT

The first stage for the search for Miss Tourism 2007 will be held on October 12 at Rock Gardens, Speke Hotel, the next phase at Kabira Country Club poolside on October 19 and the finals will be held at Speke Resort Munyonyo on November 3.

The contest organised by the Ministry of Tourism, Crane Bank and Godfrey Kalungi Kirumira (GKK) group of companies, will feature casual wear and showcase talent in popular live music and exotic Arabian dances ahead of the commonwealth heads of Government meeting (CHOGM)

The winner who will represent Uganda at the Miss Tourism World Pageant will also win a salon car from Al. Malik Motors.

MWEYA SAFARI LODGE NOMINATED FOR TRAVEL AWARDS

Mweya safari lodge, located on a peninsula within the heart of the spectacular Queen Elizabeth National Park was recently nominated for the famous and highly valued World Travel Awards 2007.

CONSTANT POWER FOR CHOGM FACILITIES

All facilities that will host the commonwealth heads of Government meeting delegates (CHOGM) will be equipped to ensure that delegates do not experience power outages during the November conference.

Hotels that will host delegates like Serena Kampala Hotel, Imperial Royale, Sheraton Kampala and Speke resort Munyonyo have already been equipped with direct and dedicated power supply as well as generators in case of an outage.

Minister Mr D’Ujang said others such as Hotel Africana, Botanical Resort Beach Hotel and new hotels are still working to improve on their capacities and the response time of the automatic change-over from grid to standby generators in case of load-shedding.

MUNYONYO COMMONWEALTH RESORT VENUE FOR HEADS OF STATE RETREAT

The newly constructed Munyonyo Commonwealth Resort has been disclosed as the venue for the two-day heads of state retreat.

The accommodation facility is being upgraded with stand-by generators of a total capacity of 2000MVA. These will be installed to ensure that supply of power is not interrupted throughout the duration of Chogm.
The resort includes 59 Presidential Suites is under construction within the grounds of Speke Resort & Conference Centre in preparation for the 2007 Commonwealth Heads Of Government Meeting (CHOGM )

The Resort is being built on the shores of Lake Victoria, and is surrounded by water gardens and a new marina to ensure the privacy of the guests staying there during the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in November 2007. The luxurious facilities include 59 Presidential suites where the guests can relax, work or hold private meetings, Olympic size swimming pool plus the shops, bars and 5 star restaurant and facilities of Speke Resort and Conference Centre.

The state of the art conference facilities which include a 600 seat conference room will be used for the CHOGM meetings.

HOTELS HOSTING CHOGM ADVISED

Hotels have been advised by the first lady Janet Museveni, to pay attention to guest comfort, interior decor, food safety, affordability, cleanliness and all other services during CHOGM.

Mrs. Museveni said that these services like fire fighting, clean linen, courtesy and efficiency will make people comfortable and they will remember Uganda as a good place.
This was during a meeting at the Grand Imperial Hotel where the Mrs. Museveni was meeting the Uganda Hotel Owners Association members.(UHOA)
