UGANDA HOTEL WARNED AGAINST PRICE HIKE DURING CHOGM

The tourism state minister, Serapio Rukundo has warned hotels against hiking prices for the commonwealth Heads of Government meeting (CHOGM) soon to be hosted by Uganda.

The minister who was giving an update about the readiness of hotels for CHOGM said negotiations with hotel managers were going on to reduce Hotel prices, and only hotels whose rates had been negotiated with the Government would be posted on the CHOGM website soon.
Foreign affairs ministers will stay at Serena and Golf Course hotels while the Imperial Royal Hotel will accommodate the media fraternity.

Hotel Africana will host the people’s forum while Imperial Resort Beach Hotel would host the youth forum.However, the choice of accommodation will depend on the visitors with some from the neighbouring countries opting to stay with families or friends.

HOTEL OWNERS WARNED AGAINST HIKING CHOGM RATES

The president of Uganda, Yoweri Museveni has directed the Foreign Minister to investigate futher into the hiking of rates during the commonwealth heads of Government meeting (CHOGM)

This was after a complaint from the Secretary General of the Common wealth John McKinnon about the increment of hotel rates from USD 100 to USD 999.
This was mainly due to the demand-supply factor during CHOGM as well as the need for funds to carry out renovations before the conference.
