SERENA HOTEL HOSTS RUGBY MVP

Serena Kampala Hotel on Tuesday hosted the Guinness rugby-player-of-the-year at the annual awards dinner

Kobs’ Edmond Tumusiime was named the Guinness rugby-player-of-the-year (Men category) and Rachael Kakaire the Guinness rugby-player-of-the-year (Men category). Other awards were as follows: Best Coach Arthur Mugweri (Kobs), Best Upcoming Player-Joel Anguyo (Kobs), Best Referee Ramsey Olinga and Best Journalist Ronnie Kintu (New Vision).

Guinness which has replaced Bell Lager as rugby sponsors hailed the occasion and pledged their continuous support.

NEW RESORT BY HUMURA INVESTMENTS

A $2.5m (sh4.3b) resort ‘HUMURA’ was recently opened at Kitante in Kampala.

The resort opened by Humura Investments has a view of Kololo hill, and comprises of 18 deluxe rooms as well as a 50-seater conference room.The resort has spacious double rooms, twin beds and all-inclusive suites.
The managing director, Munyantwali said that the vision of the resort was to provide personalized luxury that ensures clients are at ease and their needs taken care of.

CHILDREN RIGHTS CONFERENCE AT SERENA

Serena Hotel has held the Uganda Parliamentary Forum for Children.

The meeting sponsored by Save the Children Uganda was held with an aim to fight for children’s rights, aimed at fighting child labour, corporal punishments, defilement, and the increasing cases of child abductions, and also observed that child-mothers are exposed to serious health and social risks and cautioned against using religion to back early marriages.

FIFA OFFICIALS INSPECT MAJOR HOTELS

Federation of International Football Association (Fifa) security officials have inspected hotels ahead of South Africa for the 2010 World Cup.

This is after a revelation by the Fufa Chief executive Officer (CEO) that five time world champions Brazil and England aim to pitch camp in Kampala before they travel to Johannesburg. This is in bid to meet their fans as well as ease on congestion and accommodation problems they might face in South Africa during the World Cup. The officials inspected sports facilities and infrastructure including the Serena Hotel, ultra modern Mandela National Stadium Namboole, Mulago Hospital, Sheraton Hotel, Kampala International Hospital and Mbuya Military Hospital among others ahead of the tournament.

Very many teams have expressed interest to camp in Uganda and these may include stars like Baptista, Robinho and Kaka.

MUKONO SANITATION WEEK COVERS HOTELS

In a bid to improve household hygiene, Mukono Launched a Sanitation Week from April 17. It will go on till April 23.

The move will cover hotels, homesteads, shops, bars and restaurants ensuring that high sanitation standards are observed.

The Launch which was graced by school pupils, included slashing, sweeping, collecting and disposing of refuse, inspecting buildings as well as opening up water trenches.
Sanitation should be emphasised right from homesteads in order to improve household hygiene.
