HILTON HOTEL TO BE READY BY CHOGM

The $90 million Hilton Hotel which is under construction by the AYA Group will be ready by November.

The AYA Group Chairman Mohamed Hamid said that his team’s first priority is to guarantee that the Hotel will be the “finest in East Africa”. The bulk of the building will be completed over the coming four or five months after which they will focus on the interior detail.

GRADING OF UGANDA HOTELS FOR CHOGM

The Grading of Hotels in Uganda for the Commonwealth Heads of Government meeting (chogm) will soon be conducted.

The plan to register and classify all hotel establishments in Kampala, Wakiso and Mukono will take place between February to July 2007. The grading which will be the first of its kind
in Uganda will be done by the ministry of Tourism, Trade and Industry,in conjunction with the local authorities in Kampala, using the East African classification system.

During the grading, several standards and basic considerations will be followed which includes: The product, the service and the management system. The classification exercise is going to give five stars to the hotels of the highest grade and one star to the lowest.

HOTELS TO HOST CHOGM NAMED

Hotels that will host the Commonwealth Heads of government meeting (CHOGM) have been named.

The Hotels include Serena, Speke Resort Munyonyo, Sheraton, Imperial Botanical Beach.
Hotel and Africana. Serena Hotel will host the opening ceremony, Speke Resort Munyonyo will Host the retreat, Sheraton will host the Business Forum, Imperial Botanical Hotel the Youth Forum and Hotel Africana the Peoples Forum.

Uganda is hosting the prestigious event starting 23-25 of November this year and preparations are in high gear.

STANDBY GENERATORS FOR CHOGM HOTELS

Hotels that will host the Commonwealth Heads of Government meeting delegates have been advised to have standby generators.

The Common Wealth Meeting under the theme “transforming Common Wealth societies to achieve political, economic and human development” will be held in Uganda in November 2007.
The advise came from President Museveni in a bid to address power shortages that may occur in due course.The President said that Uganda must step up its hospitality services, as well as make sure that all services are up to standard.

PRESIDENT MAKES OFFICIAL CHOGM ANNOUNCEMENT

President Yoweri Museveni made an official announcement that Uganda will host the Commonwealth Heads of State and Government Meeting (CHOGM) from November 23 to 25, 2007.

The President said that by June this year, the 4,000 beds required to accommodate CHOGM guests will be ready. All Hotels that will host guests, will have standby generators incase of power shortages.

‘Transforming Commonwealth societies to achieve political, economic and human development’ is the theme for the summit, which will give Uganda an opportunity to inject its ideas into the bigger group of 53 countries, publicizing Uganda as a tourist destination, and other business opportunities, said the President.
