CROWN HOTEL HOSTS BUNYORO BEAUTY QUEEN

Crown Hotel-Hoima will host the search for the most beautiful girl in Bunyoro, which includes districts of Hoima, Masindi, Kibale and Bulisa.

The winner will walk away with a new 29-inch colour TV,the second runner-up will win a 14-inch colour TV and the third, a fully connected mobile phone.
The pageant which has attracted eight beauties, will be attended by Toro queen mother Omugo Best Kemigisa who will be the chief guest.

Guests will pay sh10,000 for VIP and sh5,000 for general seating. The pageant will also feature performances by local top-flight crowd thrillers from the region and Kampala-based artistes.

HILTON HOTEL CONSTRUCTION ON-GOING

Construction of the Hilton Hotel is proceeding smoothly at the $90m (sh162b) site in Nakasero.

The managing director of AYA Brothers Ltd, Mohammod Hamid, said that AYA recently purchased an 80 cubic metres per hour batching plant to mix concrete and also installed two 50,000 litre water tanks, a transformer and a diesel generator to enable work go on for 24 hours a day.

The five-star hotel is designed to have 23 floors, and is not for the commonwealth Summit in November.

LIBYAN INVESTORS SHOW INTREST IN HOTELS

Libyan Investors who were recently meeting President Yoweri Museveni showed interest in Hotel investments.

The delegation from the Libyan Arab African Investment Company included Hassan Treki, the head of the company, El Haadi Dred, the resident manager in Uganda and Abdulbassel el Azzabi, the head of the company’s telecommunications sector.

The company showed intrest to invest in textile, hotels, telecommunications and other projects was also interested in a joint venture with Uganda Coffee Development Authority to process instant coffee.

HOTELS FULLY BOOKED AS TOURISTS FLOCK IN FOR XMAS

Hotels and other accommodation facilities in Uganda are fully booked, as Tourists are flock into the country for the Xmas season.

Rooms in major hotels are sold out and flights are fully booked by mainly foreign tourists, coming from the US, UK, Germany and the Netherlands.Flights like KLM and British Airways reported to be fully booked with long waiting lists.
Major Lodges like Mweya and Paraa safari lodges reported to be sold out since three weeks.

Until June 2006, the To urism Industry registered 335,630 new arrivals into the country,and the number is expected to reach around 670,000 for the whole year.The tourism boom is attributed to upgraded hotel facilities, better image-building and improved security.

Uganda attracts a large number of tourists due to several attarctions like gorillas, the Mountains of the Moon, the largest diversification of birds in the world, lakes and Rivers as wel as rich cultural tourism.

HOTELS WARNED ON STANDARDS

Government Has warned hotels over standards that do not conform to international standards ahead of the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) due November 2007.

The Government has threatened to close hotels that fail to meet the standards.Serapio Rukundo the Tourism state minister said hotels should accustom themselves to standards.

The minister advised hotel managements to define and document their hygiene policy, and embrace hygiene standards.
