Hotel Africana hosted the Investor of the year awards on Monday.
The Hotel which is a 4 star Hotel, is located in an exclusive , quiet private area, 3 minutes from the city centre.
The Hotel started preparations for the awards a few months ago, which cost Uganda Investment Authority (UIA) Sh60 Million, spent on awards, venue, dinner, entertainment and monitoring of the investors.
Over 30 companies participated in the event.

Kampala Serena Hotel was on 27/December/2006, named Investor of the year, at the investor of the year awards held at Hotel Africana.
The Hotel was named at the annual event organised by the Uganda Investment Authority (UIA) with a Golden plaque and a certificate of merit, which was received by Mahmud Jan Mohamed, Serena Hotels Tourism Promotion Services managing director.
This is in a bid to recognise investors’ contribution to the country’s development. According to Dr. Maggie Kigozi, the chief of UIA, the hotel invested $30m, and created 347 jobs, as well as improving staff efficiency and customer service by spending $240,000 on staff training.
The Serena Hotel was recently opened By His Highness the Aga Khan, and his Excellency President Yoweri Museveni.

Construction of the Hilton Hotel in Nakasero is in High gear.
The 23-storey building is to be completed ahead of the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) due in Uganda late next year.
The hotel on Nakasero Hill is being constructed by Abu Construction Company as the main contractor, supervised by London-based Thomas Adamson as quantity surveyors, Waterman International as structural engineers and the architects are John Seyert.

Victoria International Airlines (VIA), the new National Airline will benefit hotels in Uganda by creating an upsurge in overnight stays.
The Airline in which the government holds 25% shareholding has a total of 2 aircrafts which will start operations today. This is expected to have an impact on the tourism Industry by increase in over night stays and average growth of tourism numbers.
VIA has initial flights to 3 African destinations which include Nairobi, Johannesburg and Juba, eventually go continental to destinations like South Africa. The airline will operate 2 flights daily to Nairobi, 3 times in a week to Johannesburg, and four flights weekly from Entebbe to Juba. The Airline ticket from Entebbe to Juba USD 276, Entebbe to Johannesburg is USD 338 and Entebbe to Nairobi will cost USD 138.
The Simple Fares which include tax, combined with advantages of flying with the International Airlines like no hidden conditions, Extended Ticket Conditions,up to 30 kg’s baggage allowance in economy class, Change of travel date and time for Free, 30 days ticket validity and Nice and Friendly services will increase on the number of visitors to Uganda through ease of travel, therefore increasing the use of Hotels and accommodation facilities.
With 40 Flights per week, clients have a range of payment methods including use of Credit Cards, cash payments, Designated Travel Agents, VIA Uganda Ticket Offices and payments at the Head Office.
The New Airline will develop hotels in Uganda through growth in occupancy levels,as well as the tourism Industry by creating the ‘push effect’ where destinations will register an increase in tourism.

Uganda hotels and tourism destinations are to be marketed in Belgium to European travellers looking for a new and exciting experience.
A team which recently visited Uganda from Uniglobe Belux Travel based in Belgium said that the infrastructure and hotels in Uganda are good. The team was impressed with what they had seen in Uganda and wanted to go back home and sell it.
Mr. Patrick Maes, the Marketing and communication manager said that rafting and Gorillas are among some of the packages that they intend to promote.
