ICC MEETING AT SHERATON HOTEL

Uganda will Host a 12-man International Cricket Council(ICC) meeting at the Kampala sheraton hotel.

The meeting which will be attended y officials of the world governing body of cricket will take place on December 4. The Meeting will be hosted by Uganda after the country won the hosting bid during the recent ICC Annual Conference, which was held at Lord’s Cricket Ground in London.

The meeting will enable discussion of the development of the game in Uganda.

HOTELS ADVISED ON COMMONWEALTH SECURITY

Hotels have been advised on security in during the commonwealth meeting in November 2007.

Hotels hosting delegates have been advised to prepare for the commonwealth heads of government meeting (CHOGM) crime inorder to keep the guests secure.

Tips given include provision of quality and security locks with viewers, strict key control measures, staff admission should be confined to one entrance, Good surveillance across public areas, Installing closed circuit television (CCTV), crime incidents should be reported to police, functional metal detectors should be placed at entrances, employmnt of security guards from private security organisations approved by police, Standard fire safety measures, hotel safes or centralised safety deposits and Room attack alarms for beds shoud be introduced.

This will provide security to the guests during their stay at several hotels.

SERENA HOTEL TO BOOST TOURISM

Serena Hotel, the five star hotel which was recently opened by President Museveni and His highness the Aga Khan will boost tourism as well as investment profile of Uganda.

The group with Hotels in Tanzania, Kenya, Afghanistan, Mozambique and Pakistan, will create links with international brands, therefore promoting Uganda as a tourist destination as well as country, making it able for Uganda to tap into the million-dollar marketing budgets.

The Hotel formerly the Nile Hotel was rennovated at a cost of $30m.

NEW HOTEL IN WEST NILE

A new hotel has been opened in Arua district in the West Nile.

The new California Hotel which belongs to Saverino Embati, a businessman in Arua town was opened on November 4 was opened by Col. Charles Otema, the UPDF 4th Division Commander.

This is a big step towards the development of the Hospitality industry.

HOSPITALITY EXAMS TO BE INTRODUCED

Hospitality national exams will soon be introduced in Tourism training institutes

The Hotel Tourism Training Institute (HTTI) which will train service providers for the commonwealth heads of government meeting (chogm) will have the exams inorder to spearhead
development of national hospitality and tourism.
