Hotels that do not meet required standards have been urged to upgrade.
In a survey conducted by the Ministry of Tourism, Trade and Industry, districts of Kampala, Mukono and Wakiso in May and June were surveyed. This was to evaluate the state of readiness of hotels for the CHOGM meeting in 2007, and was also in preparation for the classification and grading of Hotels and accommodation facilities.
Hotels found with service defects like documented security policy, poor management of security matters, fire fighting equipment and escapes were urged to upgrade and improve their services in time for the common-wealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM).
