UGANDAN HOTELS WARNED ON CHOGM SECURITY

Hotels in the country which will host the Commonwealth heads of state meeting next year have been urged to install modern security gadgets.

Mr Jackson Etwop, the Managing Director of GroupView Technologies (Africa) - a subsidiary of Groupview Technologies International Canada, said that they believe Uganda hotel managers should install modern security gadgets to beat any form of terrorism.

GroupView Technologies deals in latest security gadgets which are used world wide. The company has opened a new office in Uganda.

HOTEL AFRICANA CELEBRATES 9 YEARS

On Friday, President Yoweri Museveni commissioned the multi million dollar 3,500 seater Africana Conference Hall.

The multi purpose three storey complex, houses nine executive conference halls and committee rooms, a business centre, state-of- the-Art -350 seater KIBS restaurant, offices shops and a saloon.The centre also has backstage private private Presidential facilities which are fully furnished and self contained.

The President defended the tax exemption to hoteliers as a well thought out policy saying taxes to hoteliers would only scare away potential investors.
The president also handed over certificates to excellent staff.

SHERATON HOTEL TOLD TO RESTORE GREEN PARK.

In a bid to make Kampala “as green as possible”, Kampala City Council (KCC) wants Sheraton Kampala Hotel to restore part of the green area now used as a parking area.

Godfrey Kisseka, the assistant town clerk of Kampala Central, said the green space was leased to Sheraton a few years ago on the understanding that “it would remain a green park.’’

Sheraton officials said they would rehabilitate the degraded part of the green sitting on the eight acre piece of land as soon as the renovation is concluded. Janet Mzigo, the director of sales and marketing, said, “The renovations will be over soon.’’ She said Sheraton meets the cost of maintaining the park.

AFRICANA CONFERENCE CENTER FOR OPENING

Hotel Africana is to open a conference center today.

The center that will be opened by President Yoweri Museveni, is a multi purpose three storey complex, housing nine executive conference halls and committee rooms, a business centre, state-of- the-Art -350 seater KIBS restaurant, offices shops and a saloon.The centre also has backstage private private Presidential facilities which are fully furnished and self contained.

The Proprietor Hotel Africana, H ajji Bulaimu Kibirige said the conference hall is convinient for state Banquets, wedding receptions and after parties, concerts and exhibitions.He also said that he was not just targeting the Commonwealth meeting in Kampala. “We are a business so we must keep on providing the services to clients before, during or after the Chogm” Kibirige said.

MODERN GYM FOR AFRICANA

Hotel Africana is to unveil a modern gym .

The $ 160,000 (sh300m) investment will open to the public today.The Gym is equipped with the lattest gym and health club technology. The health club is mirrored from the walls and room, has a gymnasium and also offers saunas, steam rooms and jacuzzis, and aerobic studios. It will also offer massages, facials, manicures and pedicures.

The health club has machines ranging from treadmills, dumb-bells, heart beat monitors, benches, sit up machines and weights.
