SPEKE RESORT MUNYONYO HOSTS INVESTOR OF THE YEAR AWARD.

BIDCO Uganda was named this year’s investor of the year with a Golden Award from Uganda Investment Authority (UIA) at a function held at Speke resort munyonyo, Kampala Uganda.
The investor of the year awards were attended by several companies, top officials like UIA chief Dr Maggie Kigozi, Bank of Uganda deputy governor Dr Louis Kasekende, the central bank’s spokesman Juma Walusimbi and Uganda Revenue Authority’s boss, Allen Kagina.

BIDCO’s CEO Vimal Shah received the award and a return air ticket to Guangzhou China, from Kenya Airways. After BIDCO dislodged Stanbic Bank as investor of the year.
The company was said to have set up a modern agro-processing plant worth $28m aimed at increasing the production capacity from 300 to 500 metric tonnes of cooking oil within a few months.

The UIA chief, Dr Maggie Kigozi said BIDCO the company had invested $170m and created employment for 517 Ugandans, contributing to poverty reduction in Kalangala and Jinja, had maintained good environmental practices by installing an affluent treatment plant and improved domestic cooking oil production and soap that are being sold to the Great Lakes region.

Other awards went to the Vice-President, Prof. Gilbert Bukenya, recognition for promoting Upland Rice growing, Mary Tamale of Maganjo Grain Millers was selected as the best women entrepreneur and Africa Asia Investment and Technical Center for promoting investment between Uganda and Asia.
Uganda Breweries got exemplary contribution to environmental protection. Japan International Cooperation Agency for promoting trade between Japan and Uganda.

The investor of the year silver award went to International Hospital Kampala who also received a return air ticket from SN Brussels to any destination in Europe, and the bronze award was taken by Tembo Steels.

Certificates of merit were awarded to Sheraton Kampala Hotel for environment protection and improvement to a five-star hotel, East African Business Council for investment promotion in the Nordic countries and EVD International for promotion of joint ventures between Uganda and Netherlands, Monitor Publications received a certificate of merit and a return air ticket to Johannesburg from South African Airways for the small-scale enterprise category, Graphic Systems was the first runner-up and Eden International School second runner-up in the small enterprise category.

Southern Range Nyanza, Fiduga limited, Tororo Cement Limited, Anipam Global Soft, Aya Bakery, Bajaba Millers, Britannia Allied Industries, House of Eden, Infinity Media, Kitchen and Office Concepts, Carriers Uganda and MK Publishers, Mavid Pharmaceuticals, Pan Afric Commodities, Stanhope Finance Company, Uganda Breweries, Wispro Uganda and World Institution Building Programme.

Daudi Migereko, the trade minister, commended UIA for maintaining the tradition of rewarding investors.

HOTEL UNDER CONSTRUCTION

A hotel on Entebbe Road at Bwebajja is being reconstructed.
The hotel reconstruction is aimed at offering employment opportunities to the people of Entebbe and Bwebajja, as well as promote tourism in the area.

The hotel is located along Entebbe road, not away from the airport and will offer accommodation to visitors and tourists in Entebbe an area with a range of attractions.

SHERATON HOTEL TO HOST FASHION WEEK.

Sheraton Kampala a 4 star hotel is to host the fashion week in kampala-Uganda. The fashion show being organized by Arapapa designs is to showcase young African designers like Xenson Senkaba who recently exhibited his fashion designs at Blue mango.

The fashion week, which is to take place from 24th-27th November, will feature themes from African countries like Uganda and Rwanda focusing on genocide, war and emancipation, and will feature other famous designers from around the world.

Arapapa manager Santa Anzo said that the fashion week is aimed at portraying Uganda as a “Destination for fashion and creativity”, promoting fashion and tourism industry in Uganda.

FASHION WEEK AT SHERATON HOTEL AND LUGOGO DEPICTS AFRICAN CREATIVITY.

The International fashion week in Uganda organized to take place from 24th-27th November, was a celebration of talent, richness and innovation.

The event had several shows at Sheraton Kampala hotel and Lugogo mall.
Newcomers at the show included designs from Lubega Dee, Mindra Peace, Claire Nabukenya, Agano from Kenya, Latif, Arapapa, Code 057, Maranatha, Samaki, Gemma Collection, Phenix, 4zee, Nytil Asante and Flair who showcased distinct creations promoting local fashion.

Mr. Martin Aliker recognised Ms Santa Anzo, the patron of International fashion week (UFW) as Uganda’s flag bearer in promoting talent onto the international pulpit and hailed the President Yoweri Museveni, who contributed sh20m towards the Uganda International Fashion Week (UIFW).

The fashion week hosts were M-Net’s Studio 53 Rosie Motene and Gaetano Kaggwa, who truly depicted Uganda as a magnificent beautiful country, with friendly people and climate, Truly gifted by nature.

HOTELIERS READY FOR COMMONWEALTH MEETING 2007

Uganda Hotel Owners have put their facilities together necessary to host the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in 2007.

Hoteliers in Uganda who included Karim Hirji, Sudhir Ruparelia, Kizza of Royal Suits and Collins of Colline Hotel, and the government delegation, were led by the chairman of the Uganda Hotel Owners Association, Bulaimu Muwanga Kibirige (BMK) for an executive study tour to Malta.

Uganda has several hotels with standard facilities like the new hotel under construction in Bwebajja on Entebbe Road, new hotels like Garden City and Golf Course, and all ranges of hotels in Uganda that will cater for the Commonwealth heads of government.
