New Hotels in Uganda

As visitor numbers soar up from 304,656 in 2003 to the projected 365,000 for 2004, there is pressure on the existing accommodation facilities both in numbers and quality.

In the second quarter of 2004, the Serena chain acquired the Nile Hotel, one of Kampala’s deluxe complexes with a Conference Centre seating close to 3,000 people. The hotel closed recently for major renovations, a development that will usher into Uganda for first time, the famous Serena Hotels’ hospitality.

Construction work has also started in the remote Kidepo Valley National Park. Apoka Rest Camp has been pulled down and a new tented deluxe camp is being constructed. This is a project by the Uganda Safari Company that owns Semliki Safari Lodge and which will also soon open a lush new deluxe tourist hotel on one of the garden-like seven hills on which Kampala was originally founded.

Lying along the shores of Lake Victoria is the magnificent Speke Resort Munyonyo, encompassing 40 acres of land.
