In the past six weeks, fifteen ambassadors visited Uganda in an attempt of exploring its tourist attractions and 9 of them decided to move all over the world and promote Uganda’s tourism sector.
The source of river Nile in Jinja, mountain gorillas, tree climbing lions, the music, art and dances of different Ugandan cultures, the generosity of Ugandans are the main reasons as to why most tourists yearn to take a safari in Uganda, the Emerald pearl of Africa- Uganda. Uganda is gifted by nature and that’s why more tourists are interested in exploring more about its most adventurous and thrilling destinations.
Uganda’s tourism resources were “exported” by the ambassadors rather than waiting for tourists to visit the country. These traveled to different countries such as Tanzania, Rwanda, Turkey, Ethiopia, and Kenya among others with some tourism products and knowledge about Uganda plus promoting its tourism industry to the different countries.

The ambassadors took several products such as coffee from Uganda, bugles, key holders- products from cow horn, different novels and booklets about tourism in Uganda to the different countries of which they found different people in those countries including Ugandan representatives, tourism stake holders, normal people and the media talking about the same attractions of Uganda! For the ambassadors, the visit has been a memorable and a wonderful one but their mission is to create awareness of all what Uganda has to offer to the different countries all over the world. “I believe we have much to tell but we need to improve on our ways of marketing the products and the way we address people so that we make tourism experience memorable” says Nakaye- one of the ambassadors.
The ambassadors also urged Ugandan citizens to visit destinations within the country because they are not meant for only foreign tourists. Sandra Akello- a contestant on the post of being the ambassador said that if she succeeds, she will encourage more of domestic tourism. “Because appreciating the attractions with the country should begin with us before the foreigners come to know about them” she added. Ordinary people should also understand the relative importance of the tourism sector as the prime income earner to the country. Says Akello.
