Accomodation within and outside the National Parks in Uganda is set to double as more than 20 sites are being developed, according to the Executive Director of UWA, Moses Mapesa.
He said 2 concessions in the World Famous Murchison Falls National Park, were about to be completed and these are Chobe and Pakuba lodges. Kidepo Apoka Lodge is being re-developed to accomodate more than 40 people, Great Lakes Safaris in Queen Elizabeth is one of the new developments.
Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, a habitat to the globally-endangered mountain gorillas, is to get another accommodation facility at Ruhija. The park has accommodation facilities at Buhoma and Nkuringo.

Uganda Hotels have welcomed the Governments plan to reduce power prices and this has been viewed by the hotel owners as a positive step by Government to keep them competitive in the region, especially in the East African Community, writes Eddy Kirya.
Ismael Sekandi, the Uganda Hotel Owners Association executive director, said the reduction of power prices would reduce their operational costs and enable the industry break even.
He also adds that they want to hotel industry moved away from the commercial tariff category to the industry tariff category where prices are lower.

The National Celebrations for the commonwealth day were held at the Hotel Africana targeting youth empowerment as the main objective of the commonwealth this year.
The acting Permanent Secretary of Ministry of Foreign Affairs Rhoda Kaisho said Uganda as a country had endeavoured to empower the youth through youth centers which provide training in Entreprenuership, management and vocational skills to school drop outs and those youths that fail to join University, hense creating Jobs.
Kaisho said the youth centers were started by the commonwealth secretariat and are being funded by the commonwealth secretariat.

The 235-room five -star Hilton Hotel in Uganda is to open in December 2009, Mr. Arthur Hanyurwa the AYA Group human resource manager has said. He told reporters recently that the building which is to have 21 floors had so far reached the 11th floor.
The hotel will also have 37 presidential , diplomat and project suites plus 10 separate apartments. A shopping mall, business centre and restaurants will also be set up.
Once completed the hotel is expected to create 1,000 jobs for ugandans, writes Eddy Kirya.

For the first time, the Indo-Asian community of Uganda is set to host the Miss India-Uganda 2009 pageant, under the theme: Miss India-Uganda, beauty and brains. The Warid Telecom-sponsored pageant will take place at the Golf Course Hotel in Kampala this evening.
The winner will represent Uganda at the glamorous Miss India Worldwide pageant on February 14 in Durban, South Africa. All, contestants are girls of Indian origin and residents of Uganda says Usha Rajesh Nair, of Impresario events, the event managers.
Among the invited guests is the reigning Miss India Worldwide, Farisha, who is expected in Kampala to crown the winner.
