ADDITIONAL POWER SURCHARGE FOR SHERATON HOTEL.

The Sheraton Kampala Hotel has added a power surcharge on its room rate.

According to the Director of Sales & Marketing Janet Mzigo, the irregular power supply and increased tariffs by 37% from 1st June 2006.have adversely affected the hotel’s operational costs.
The Hotel has therefore introduced an additional power surcharge of US$ 15 per room per night to off set our increasing operational costs.

The additional Power Surcharge of US$ 15 is effective from 15th September 2006 until further notice.

Sheraton hotel is part of the starwood hotels.

$30 MILLION FAKE DOLARS SEIZED AT OPIT HOTEL GULU

30 million fake dollars were seized at Opit Travellers Inn from a 21-year-Bosco Kilama, stuffed in a briefcase.

The Hotel commonly known as Buganda Pub, where the culprit was seized after the army had been tipped off.
Capt. Alex Ahabyona of the 4th Division, said that Kilama was part of a gang of “three dirty dealers” headed by a resident of Pabbo sub-county in Amuru district, who are all now on the run.

Kilama, a builder in Pabbo, said that he was asked by a man he identified as Akera of Pabbo to deliver it to the cashier of Opit Travelers Inn and in turn was promised seven million shillings as a reward.

Milton Odongo, Gulu deputy resident district commissioner urged the Police to find the conmen.

EMIN PASHA HOTEL TO HOST WAINANA FOR ZAMANI SHOW

A unique blend of contemporary live African music, visual art, food and comedy will be hosted every quarter at the hotel.

The show that will start at 6.30p.m. and end by 11p.m.will feature Eric Wainaina, a Kenyan Kora Award-winning singer-songwriter whose career was launched with his debut album, Sawa Sawa, in 2001.

His music is a blend of Kenyan Benga rhythm and East African guitars, with some modern harmony.

WINDSOR HOTEL BECOMES LIBYAN HOTEL

The Windsor Lake Victoria Hotel has changed its name to Libyan Hotel.

The Hotel was handed to the Windsor Group led by business mogul, Habib Kagimu as part of the allocation of the privatisation course of action of several hotels that previously belonged to Uganda Hotels.

Kagimu handles scores of its deals like Tamoil, which is extending the Kenya-Uganda oil pipeline and Libya is becoming a key investor in the country.

AFRICANA HOTEL HOSTS ROTATRY FUNDRAISING

Over sh22m has been raised by the Rotary Club of Kampala East for the construction of classrooms at St. Kizito Primary School in Wakiso district.

The funds which will be used to construct 2 classrooms was raised during a fundraising dinner at the Hotel. The school with 344 pupils, has only five classrooms and other pupils study under trees.

Other companies that contributed to the project included Charles Mbire who contributed sh3m, Sudhir Ruperelia, Housing Finance Company, Uganda Baati, Nilecom Ltd, Civil Aviation Authority, Bank of Uganda and Prime Media.
