There are 12 mountain Gorilla Groups in Uganda that are habituated for tracking and trekking by tourists. These are located in 3 sectors located in Bwindi Impenetrable national park.
Bwindi forest is a mountainous rain forest located in south-western part of Uganda and famous for gorilla trekking safari in Uganda with over half of the world’s remaining mountain gorillas are know to call this forest home. The park sets of 321km2 of land gazetted in1991
Due to large numbers gorillas, in relation to the area it was identified that a number of mountain gorillas groups were all over he forest thus a creation of four sectors in the park. These are Buhoma, Ruhija, Nkuringo and Rushaga.
Buhoma was the first sector to be created with one gorilla family called Mubare and currently has 3 gorilla families of Habinyanja, Rushegura on top of Mubare.
Ruhija is a home to 3 gorilla groups of Bitukura, Oruzogo and Kyaguriro
Nkuringo area has only one gorilla group known as Nkuringo
Rushaga area the sector with the highest gorilla groups, it’s home to 5 families of Nshongi, Mishaya, Kahungye, Bweza and Busingye
