Bushara
Island camp is located 9 km from Kabale town on Bushara Island
in the middle of Lake Bunyonyi South Western Uganda. Kabale is
5 to 6 hours drive from Kampala on a fair to good tarmac road
making Bushara Island camp an excellent weekend get away. Bushara
Island is also an ideal setting for both conferences and workshops
where we offer a secluded, quiet setting for seminars and retreats
for any organisation or company.
With
warm days (24 Celsius) and cool nights (14 Celsius) Lake Bunyonyi
offers a temperate climate with low humidity. Our rainy season
runs through Mar/Apr & Oct/Nov.
We provide a safe and secure parking
facility for visitors vehicles adjacent to our boat landing site.
The parking has 24 hour security. After a mere 15 minute motorised
boat transfer you will be welcomed by our friendly staff at Bushara
Island Camp. A complementary glass of fresh juice, or tea/coffee
is made available during registration providing time for you to
take in the ambience of your new surroundings.
The
camp is set on 16 hectares of private land offering accommodation
in 8 furnished tents (3 superior and 5 standard) with large patios,
the tent and patio is covered by a papyrus thatched roof. Additionally
the Kingfisher and Pita Cottages offer one and two bedroom facilities
for those unsure about a night under canvas.
All tents are comfortably furnished
with either two single beds or two double beds and have views
of the lake. Each is privately situated with is own bathing facility
and all superior tents have private composting toilets adjacent.
Standard tents share toilet facilities.
The cottages offer private patios with
expansive lake views, mosquito nets over each bed and private
toilet and bathing facilities.
Additionally for those intent on do
yourself camping we offer a pitch your own site with communal
toilet and shower facilities.

Furnished Safari Tents: Single US$16-, double US$22,
or US$39- per person sharing on a full board basis.
Full board basis includes boat transfers, all meals, secure parking,
guided tour of island, morning tea/coffee. Children 4 and under
are free, children 5 to 12 US$10-.
Cottages US$16-, US$22- or US$40- per night
( in one or two bedroom cottages based on single, double or quadruple
occupancy).
Cottage accommodation on full board basis:
US$39-, or US$44- per person (based on single/double or quad occupancy).
Do it yourself camping
Ushs 2,500- per person per night.
The Swallows Restaurant:
Surrounded
by beautiful gardens on the crest of the island our restaurant
offers views of the lake below, the surrounding hills and distant
Virunga Volcanoes. The restaurant provides diners and day visitors
alike a wide range of beers and a selection of imported wines.
Our menu is comprehensive, where both international and local
cuisine is freshly prepared with good wholesome potions provided
for even the healthiest of eaters. A selection of snacks is available
throughout the day.
The Garden Canteen:
A private meeting area for your group workshop/conference sessions
is available set in lush tropical gardens. Here we have thatched
covered tables with lake views and an indoor meeting room suited
to small groups.
Recreation:
During
free time, guests can enjoy a variety of activities. These include
swimming in Lake Bunyonyi (Bilharzia free), sailing, windsurfing,
dugout canoeing, nature walks (1,8 kms of maintained trails around
the island), bird-watching (Nyombe Swamp, Muko Swamp and Mukoni
Village walks) and nightly campfires. We have regular cultural
and traditional music and dance performances presented by local
community members. For those with energy left both a badminton
and volleyball court are on hand for willing participants.
